Hunting Rates FAQ
Understanding Hunting Rates
-
At Wellfound Safaris, hunting rates are usually structured in two parts: a daily rate and trophy fees. The daily rate covers the core safari experience, while trophy fees apply to the animals you hunt. This gives hunters a clear and flexible way to plan the overall cost of a safari.
-
The daily rate covers the main services and hospitality during your safari.
This typically includes accommodation and meals, the services of your professional hunter, tracker, skinner and camp staff, laundry, field preparation of trophies, transport of trophies to a local taxidermist, and Wi-Fi at select lodges.
-
Trophy fees are the fees charged for each species hunted during the safari.
Each animal has its own listed trophy fee, allowing hunters to plan around the species they want to pursue and the style of safari they prefer.
-
This is a standard and transparent way of pricing a hunting safari.
Separating the daily rate from trophy fees allows hunters to see the cost of the safari itself apart from the animals hunted, and it also makes it easier to compare options such as packages or tailor-made hunts.
-
Under Wellfound Safaris’ hunting rules, an animal is considered hunted if it is wounded.
Evidence such as blood, hair or bone confirms a hit, and wounded animals are charged at full trophy value.
-
Yes. Rates are listed in US dollars, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
This makes pricing easier for many international hunters planning a safari in South Africa.
-
Items not included on the rates page include airfare and airport transfers, charter flights or travel outside the hunt, taxidermy or export fees, and gratuities for staff and your professional hunter.
Depending on your safari, you may also need to budget for optional extras such as rifle hire and ammunition.
-
Yes. Wellfound Safaris offers both hunting packages and a more flexible pricing structure based on daily rates plus trophy fees.
A package may suit hunters who want a simpler structure, while a custom safari can be better for those who want to focus on specific species or shape the trip around their own priorities.
Booking, Payment and Planning
-
The easiest way to estimate the total cost is to use our hunt calculator, which is linked on this page.
It helps you combine your daily rates and the trophy fees for the species you plan to hunt, giving you a clearer picture of your safari budget.
It is also wise to allow for any applicable VAT and optional extras such as rifle hire and observers (non-hunters). -
A 50% deposit of the total day fee is required within 7 days of making a reservation to confirm your booking.
-
The remaining balance is due 60 days before arrival.
If payment deadlines are not met, the reservation may be released without notice. -
If you cancel more than 60 days before arrival, 50% of accommodation and daily fees are refundable.
If you cancel less than 60 days before arrival, there is no refund. All cancellations must be made in writing. -
Yes. Wellfound Safaris offers one opportunity to reschedule to available dates within 12 months, subject to availability. The request must be made in writing at least 30 days before the original arrival date.
-
Yes. Comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended, especially cover for medical emergencies, travel delays, and luggage loss.
-
Yes. Non-hunters, including children, may join on hunts, but they must remain under the supervision of staff or the professional hunter at all times. Safety briefings are mandatory for all guests participating in or observing the hunt.
